697 Antiqueños avail of Pangulong Gloria Scholarship
SAN JOSE, Antique – In line with the Economic Resiliency Program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) reported a total of 697 Antiqueños that have availed of Pangulong Gloria Scholarship in the province.
Pangulong Gloria Scholarships provide free training, training support fund and free competency assessment to support job creation and job preservation.
Elisa Cepe, Senior TESDA Specialist said that the courses offered are short-term and are competency based for the students to acquire necessary skills and knowledge in shorter period but are competent to work in the chosen field.
Among the courses offered are barista (coffeemaker), commercial cooking, food and beverage and computer hardware servicing. These courses are offered at Advance Central College, an accredited vocational school in the province with competence to offer such courses. There are 400 students who have availed of this scholarship at ACC.
TESDA training center in Villavert Jimenez, Hamtic has the following course offerings; building wiring installation, automotive servicing, shielded metal arc welding and refrigeration and air conditioning with instructors who are specialist of TESDA provincial office. A total of 297 have graduated in these courses.
After graduation, Cepe said that these students will undergo mandatory assessment of their competency to ensure that they acquire the national competency certificate which can be used for employment here and abroad.
With Pangulong Gloria Scholarship TESDA hopes to produce a pool of qualified and globally competent workforce who are ready for the job. (PS Mabaquiao/PIA)
