City Mayor Jerry Treñas said all Catholic churches under the Archdiocese of Jaro are placed under the close watch of police following the spate of bombings in Mindanao. Though, there is no specific threat, the police should not be complacent of the situation, the Mayor said.
Treñas said police will be assigned to different churches to reassure the worshippers of their safety while inside the Church. The police will be around in every mass. The implementation of the order started last Saturday.
The Catholic churches were given importance as bombing incidents in Mindanao happened at the vicinity of the church. The presence of cops in the church is more of a deterrent factor with an assurance of the people’s safety.
The chief executive has been in constant communication with the Iloilo City Police Office officials since the series of bombings occurred in various parts of the country.
Aside from the churches, the police were also ordered by their top officials to monitor and exercise security measures in all places of convergence like malls.
