Academe, studes hail anti-graft efforts of the Ombudsman
Students and the academe of West Negros University recently lauded the efforts of the anti-graft campaign of the Office of the Ombudsman during a “Reformation and Good Governance,” symposium at the GGA-Audio Visual Center of the school.
More than a hundred participants took part in the activity consisting of students, lawyers, professors, church laypersons and leaders who indicated their intention to take part in the government’s anti-corruption campaign.
Assistant Graft Investigation Officer of the Ombudsman Evangeline Nuñal urged the audience to make a difference by reporting anomalies in the government to the Ombudsman so that the culture of corruption brought about by the culture of tolerance is reversed.
She attributed the present plight of millions of economically stressed Filipinos to the massive corruption taking place in both the government and private sector.
Among the programs the Ombudsman she discussed where the public can help the government is the “Oplan Red Plate” and the “Lifestyle check.” The programs have resulted in the prosecution and apprehension of many erring government officials and employees.
Meanwhile, Social Science Professor and symposium organizer Joy Vingno said fighting graft and corruption “should be the concern of everybody and good governance must be its concrete result.”
He slammed the religious people who failed to eradicate the culture of corruption in their half- a- millennium church rule in the country and from where many public officials trace their faith who are also corrupt.
“We, educators with the Reformation mandate, are now answering this call (of good governance),” Vingno, who is also a preacher, said.
The group of Lawyer Jerry Basiao called “Justice and Mercy” is set to strike a deal with the Ombudsman to act as one of its Corruption Prevention Unit (CPU). PIA-LOL
