NFA prepares for intensified palay procurement
SAN JOSE, Antique – The National Food authority prepares for intensified palay procurement operations for the main crop 2009. The agency buys clean and dried palay at P17.00 per kilo plus incentives of P.20/kg for drying and P.20/kg for trucking/delivery for individual farmers and additional P.30/kg for Cooperative Development Incentive Fee (CDIF) for cooperatives.
NFA Provincial Manager Engr. Gil B. Ibarra said that walk-in farmers can sell to NFA up to 50 bags of palay without farmer’s passbook but with endorsement/certification from concerned authority/agency (i.e DAR, DA, NIA, CDA, Brgy. Captain, MAO, Local Government Executives, etc.) duly authenticated by their Municipal Agricultural officer (MAO).
Individual farmers or farmers’ group with farmer’s passbook and master passbook respectively are advised to revalidate their farmer’s passbook and will be allowed to sell to NFA up to the actual hectarage/production as indicated in their passbook for individuals while maximum allowable delivery for cooperative/farmers organizations shall be based on actual hectarage/production indicated in their master passbook. They will be paid in cash up to p100,000.00 worth of palay deliveries.
To beef up the province’ buffer stock, the agency targets to buy 169,000 bags of palay for the period of July to December 2009.
Wet palay will also be accepted by NFA but only limited to its drying capacity of 600 bags per day. To cater farmers palay drying needs, the agency have four recirculating mechanical dryers at NFA Provincial Office and one (1) unit at NFA Culasi Grains Center in Caridad, Culasi, Antique.
