Police auxiliary applicants take exams today
Eighty-eight applicants for the city's police auxiliary will be taking their written examination starting today until tomorrow at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
The said applicants have initially qualified the screening conducted by the selection board headed by Mr. Arturo Dicen, the city's executive assistant for peace and order.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said most those who are admitted to take the examination are graduates of Criminology courses and four-year courses. After the qualifying examination, they will undergo training prior to their final admission as members of the city’s police auxiliary force.
The plan to hire police auxiliaries was conceptualized by ICPO chief Senior Supt. Melvin Mongcal after he assumed as the city police director. The hiring of police auxiliaries as multiplier force is patterned from Metro Manila. Once hired, a police auxiliary will receive a salary of P6,000 with benefits from GSIS and PhilHealth. They will be hired on contractual basis.
The renewal of their contract will depend on their performance. The city will also provide the police auxiliaries with their uniforms and arm them with an arnis or with a tear gas. They will undergo arnis training and self-defense training prior to their deployment. The ratio of the deployment is 1:3 or one police with three police auxiliaries. The 100 police auxiliaries will be deployed in the different districts.
The hiring of police auxiliaries is deemed to help the city's policemen in the fight against criminalities and maintenance of peace and order.
The present number of policemen in the city is not an ideal ratio of a policeman to the number of people. The hiring of police auxiliaries will also serve as training ground for the future hiring in the police service.
The city has allotted millions of pesos for the hiring of police personnel. The applicants are all from Iloilo City.
