Negrenses urged to paint Bacolod City red on SONA day
BACOLOD CITY — Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan)-Negros Secretary General Felipe Gelle Jr. yesterday urged the Negrenses and Bacoleños to paint Bacolod City red by wearing red shirts on the day of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) as an expression of people’s opposition to PGMA’s move to amend the constitution through House Resolution 1109.
Gelle said that there is nothing new with the President’s SONA because she will again fool the people by painting a nice portrait of the Philippine economy. “Let us demonstrate that we are opposed to her 9 years and beyond continuous stay in power. We urge the Negrense to wear red T-shirts on SONA day to express our disagreement to the present administration,” Gelle added.
He clarified that there is nothing wrong if some party-list representatives will not attend the SONA because it is a manifestation of their democratic rights. Bayan-Negros said that poverty, political killing and landlessness are key issues to be addressed and not the revision of the charter. Charter Change will just worsen our situation because foreign monopoly capitalist pushed to acquire full ownership of land and capital in the country to fit the climate of globalization to the Constitution.
Gelle emphasized that the Negrense and the Filipino people doesn’t need Charter Change in whatever means because this will not uplift their economic condition, instead this will just worsen poverty in the country because full ownership of public utilities and services will be given to foreign investors.
He believed that President Arroyo will push for her bid to be the next prime minister to avoid persecution of the crimes her administration has committed.”Let us go to the streets and join rallies headed by Bayan-Negros in the morning and of the Diocese of Bacolod in the afternoon,” Gelle stressed.
Bayan along with its allied organization will hold its rally against charter change on July 27, 2009 at 10 in the morning and will be joining the rally of the Diocese of Bacolod at the Bacolod Public Plaza that will start at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.
