TESDA-Guimaras to focus on bringing jobs
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) under the leadership of Secretary Augusto Boboy Syjuco ands the full support of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo have been implementing the Pangulong Gloria Scholarships (PGS) nationwide. Having distributed 809,800 scholarships nationwide, it will now focus on nurturing these scholars.
TESDA in Guimaras has distributed not less than 564 scholarships for the period 2006-09. The bulk of the scholarships was provided training by the Provincial Training and Enterprise Development Center (PTEDC) which is co-managed by the Provincial Government and TESDA. The scholarships for 2008 consist of TESDA’s counterpart to the investments of the Copngressman of the lone district of Guimaras, Hon. JC Rahman a. Nava, M.D. and Mayor Jimmy Gajo of San Lorenzo under the Invigorating Constituents’ Assistance in Reinforcing Employment (I-CARE ) program of TESDA.
Having produced so much graduates with not less than twenty (20) already abroad, the PTEDC will now intensify its efforts on job bridging of its scholar-graduates for local and international employment . Assistance will be afforded to them through the seeking of employment or referral/matching to local employers and foreign job markets.
TESDA and the PTEDC Guimaras will be partnering with other national government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH, Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
As Sec. Syjuco stressed, “Our functions is not only to distribute scholarships but also to take care of the scholars until they find employment.”
