Tindahan Natin served poor families in the countryside
SAN JOSE, Antique – A total of 46 Tindahan Natin outlets are on operation in the Province of Antique serving poor families in the countryside. These are among the hundreds of outlets operating nationwide.
“We are regularly monitoring the operation of the said outlets located in different towns in the province to ensure they serve the beneficiaries and supplies are available at the store,” said Lazaro Petinglay, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer.
Gladdys Gallano, Information Officer of the National Food Authority in an interview assured that NFA has sufficient supply of rice not only to Tindahan Natin but also Bigasan sa Parokya operated by the local church which sells rice at P18.25 per kilo.
“NFA rice is also available at Bigasan sa Palengke at P25.00 per kilo intended for those who are included in the masterlist of the poorest families,” said Gallano.
Tindahan natin is a government program providing poor families with cheaper rice sold only to poor families under the masterlist of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) . It is a hunger-mitigation project jointly implemented by the DSWD and the National Food Authority (NFA). Likewise, Tindahan Natin provides jobs and livelihood to those who are engaged in the grains business.
As stated in the State of the Nation Address of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, she credited the economic reforms instituted by her administration which pave the way to successful implementation of programs for the poor. (PS Mabaquiao/PIA)
