OSYs finish food preparation course
Sixty seven (67) Out- of- School- Youths (OSY) graduated last week in Food Preparation course sponsored by the Alay Lakad Foundantion and the St. Ezekiel Moreno Learning Center at Brgy. Handumanan.
The three batches of OSY spent 200 hours each in training at the center honing their entrepreneurial skills in commercial cooking. Part of their hands-on training is selling their prepared food for market test in the community.
Presidential Deputy Spokesman Anthony Golez, who was guest during the graduation, hailed the youths for finishing the course.
The skills they have learned can help them and their familyearn a living as he urged them to use the talent they have in cooking for their bright future, he told PIA.
He said they may further enhance their training with TESDA or explore financing assistance in the livelihood program of the DSWD.
A program of DSWD, he said, allows one to avail of a P5, 000 start-up capital and if they form an organization of 30 members, they can get as much as P150, 000.
Meanwhile, Alay Lakad Foundation President Wilson Gamboa Jr., said the training will make the participants self-reliant as the foundation strives to empower the youths in facing many life’s challenges especially in the economic aspect.
“This livelihood skills training given by Alay Lakad will empower young people to plan the economy of their own family and community and encourage them to be self-sufficient, self-reliant members of society,” he said. (PIA-LOL)
