VAT-compliant taxpayers help BIR XI hit collection goals
In 2008, VAT-compliant tax payers in Western Visayas helped the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR Revenue Region No. 11) collect some P5.165 billion.
This was disclosed by Regional Director Alert B. Alocilja during the program recognizing the top taxpayers in Western Visayas.
Alocilja said that the 2008 figure showed an increase of about P722 million or 16.30 percent compared to P4.43 Billion revenues in year 2007.
The 2009 Awarding Ceremony of Taxpayers was the highlight of the BIR’s 105th Anniversary celebration, recently.
During the affair, 59 top individual, government and corporate taxpayers were cited from the Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 71 (Kalibo, Aklan); RDO 72 (Roxas City; RDO 73 San Jose, Antique; RDO 74 (Iloilo City); and RDO 75 (Zarraga, Iloilo).
Also cited for supporting the priority programs and helping the BIR to efficiently fulfill their mandate were the Commission on Audit, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Government Association of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Public Accountants in the Philippines, the Civil Service Commission and the Philippine Information Agency.
Director Alocilja said that for 2009, BIR Revenue Region No. 11 is tasked to collect P5.578 billion higher by about P500 million compared to last year’s collection.
The taxes collected would go back to the taxpayers in the form various socio-economic services and infrastructure projects. (PIA6/T.Villavert)
