Brgy Dulonan strengthens city’s Environment Code ‘pulong-pulong’
House-to-house campaign on Iloilo City’s Environment Code is underway in Barangay Dulonan, Arevalo District.
Part of citywide efforts to strengthen the Code’s implementation and awareness, Dulonan Punong Barangay Edita Castillo leads the drive alongside members of the barangay council.
This, as series of “pulong-pulong” (community gatherings) were also held here in support of the city government’s Ecological Solid Waste Management – barangay level.
The Environmental Code of Iloilo City is covered by Regulation Ordinance 2004-149.
“This Ordinance deals not only on the proper solid waste disposal but also on the maintenance of a clean and green environment… We aim and desire a nice place to live in, a beautiful place with a clean and green environment. We, the barangay officials are duty bound and committed to do our shares in this undertaking,” Punong Barangay Castillo said.
The Iloilo City Environment Code is primarily aimed at addressing the effective and efficient enforcement of the Environment and Sanitation Code. Issuance of citation tickets to offenders with corresponding penalties has been stated covering as well the obligations of stakeholders.
As such, prohibited acts were identified topped by littering on the streets, sidewalks, parks, playgrounds and similar public places.
Also a big no-no is spitting, urinating and defecating here and graffiti on public or private buildings, walls and fences.
Further still, the Code calls on every city resident to maintain cleanliness on respective properties particularly three to five meter-radius of the household.
The barangay is also mandated to do a periodic clean-up.
“We count on our residents and look forward to their involvement and participation toward this effort,” Castillo ended.
