Heavy rains flood 30 brgys in Neg. Occ.
BACOLOD CITY — Heavy rains hit the province the other day and 20 barangays in the 4th District of Negros Occidental were flooded, Provincial Board member Enrique Miguel Lacson said quoting a report from the Provincial Disaster Management Office (PDMT).
He said that as of Sept. 2, 2009, 5:30 p.m., there were 1,567 Negrenses or 50 families from the towns of San Enrique, La Carlota City, Pontevedra and Valladolid who were affected by flood.
He said that in San Enrique, there were seven barangays affected with 25 families evacuated in the nearest evacuation centers. In La Carlota City 15 families were evacuated, Pontevedra, 14 families evacuated and in Valladolid seven barangays were flooded but nobody was evacuated.
Rep. Jeffrey P. Ferrer has sent relief goods to the affected families and also the concerned local government units.
Lacson said that the Provincial DSWD Liane Garcia and PDMT action man Vicfran de Fante were tasked to monitor the extent of damage and the affected families to guide the province on what action is necessary to be taken.
Moreover, Rep. Ignacio T. Arroyo also asked the Local Government of Moises Padilla to monitor the landslide area in Sitio Mana-ol, Brgy. Quintin Remo citing the heavy rains that hit the province.
He appealed to the residents to be extra careful as heavy rains can possibly trigger an earth movement in the area.
More than 102 hectares were affected by the cracks and landslides in the said town and experts from the University of the Philippines once said that the cracks and landslides were caused by an ancient cracks that were just ignored for a long period.
