Leonardia cites health and social services program
BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Evelio Leonardia in his State of the City Address (Soca) boasted that his administration was able to serve a total of 47,145 beneficiaries who availed of various existing welfare programs for family, women, children, youth, the elderly, the disabled persons and those in distressed circumstances.
Leonardia cited the Department of Social Services and Development as instrumental in bringing various government services to the poorer members of the community.
He said that the notable programs undertaken by DSSD during the past 12 months were “Tindahan Natin Project” in 14 barangays which provided rice and noodles at lower than market prices to targeted poor beneficiaries with funds.
Leonardia said that his administration supported and facilitated “Back to School” Alay Lakad Scholarship worth P347,000 to 157 out of school youths for various vocational courses such as welding, baking and pastry-making, refrigeration and air-conditioning repairs and other programs for the common good of the citizenry.
On the aspect of health services to his people, Leonardia stressed that a total of 278,040 clients availed of various services of the City Health Office for the past 12 months. He cited the distribution of PhilHealth cards to 8,323 indigent beneficiaries under the “Medicare Para sa Masa Program”. He likewise emphasized that on Hospital Services, his administration continue to assist the Provincial Hospital with additional personnel. Last year, he fielded 234 nurses at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital under the city-assisted program. Leonardia said that this year, they provided one OB-GYNE doctor and 23 nurses.
