Jor-el Espina’s Anyag
Jor-El Espina of the Young Designers of Iloilo, staged a fashion show called “Anyag” in relation to the 2nd Indigenous Market Week held at SM City Iloilo recently.
His collection fused African and Filipino tribal chic. He used different treatments into hablon in order to achieve the modern and very edgy look.
Espina has contributed in the Ilonggo fashion scene. The said event gave him the opportunity to stage his collection in a solo fashion show.
Espina started as an accessories designer. “Accessories making was just playing for me, 11 years ago. I then realized that I could make money out of it. I remember the time when I was just making ordinary beads. But the thing is not being how ordinary or expensive the material is but how you assemble it into something unique and with a class work of art. This time, I don’t consider them as fancy bling-blings but timeless time pieces,” he said. Espina continues to supply accessories to high-end stores in Greenbelt and even abroad.
He had been accessorizing for several designers in the Philippine Fashion Week for the past two seasons and some competitions abroad. His works had been featured in some national fashion magazines as well as well as local magazines.
Being chosen as one of the Top 25 Most Promising Young Designer by Mega Magazine, Espina feels that this is one of the greatest gifts for him as a designer who’s making his mark in Iloilo and in Manila.
