A smooth win for Miss Silka Iloilo: Angelie Joy Golingay
As a winner, she stays humble, focused and still knows what to prioritize in her life
She started entering pageants as early as second grade. Her teachers at Jose Alminiana Elementary School specifically chose her to be their representative in the years after that including high school.
She is as simple as anyone can get; the simple difference lies in the fact that she just won the first title for Miss Silka Iloilo. She is the sixth contestant of the recently finished pageant, Miss Angelie Joy Golingay.
She is just 16 years of age, born November 25, 1992 but she will be going to the national pageant of Miss Silka Papaya to represent the “malambing” Ilonggos. Talent competition, swimwear event and showcase of their chosen evening gowns will all be held in the week before the competition finals.
Angelie Joy Golingay won the New Faces special award and with it a modeling contract with the New Faces Spa. She is also a freshman tourism student of West Visayas State University and a folk dancer.
As a constant participant in an event such as the search for Miss Silka Papaya, one might think that the person has become familiar with the stress, pressure, lights, camera and an expected popularity and status in the society. But not Angelie Golingay. During the interview, anyone, even the non-observant ones will notice that Golingay is still young at heart and still needs the guidance and support that she gets from the people around her especially from her uncle, Jungi Candeloro who is a fashion designer. Upon entering the rendezvous, Golingay did not act as if she were some expensive jewel that should be given extra attention. Her entrance was that of a typical 16-year-old student, nervous, shy and at the same time flattered to meet her interviewers.
When asked how she felt that she almost swept clean the competition, including the special awards, Golingay said that she never expected that to happen knowing that her co-competitors were more experienced at pageants that she was at that very moment. She also said that in the duration of the competition, she had made friends with the other participants and hopes to stay that way with them.
During the interview, it seems that her victory at the pageant still did not sink in, she still seemed a little taken aback that she was sitting there being interviewed as the winner of the said pageant. She seems to be the type to take things one at a time. She plans to stick with her studies after the competition and concentrate on graduating and finding a proper and stable job.
As a child, Golingay grew up with her family who support her in every competition that she joins. Jungi Candelorio has guided and supported her in almost every competition. Seeing as he works as a fashion designer, one would say that he plays an important role in Golingay’s life as a participant in such events; he plays a role bigger than that of making sure that Golingay gets to look good in the gowns and dresses that she wears, he is an uncle who gets her in condition in mind, body and heart and makes sure that she knows that he will be the last person to stop supporting her in all her competitions. She feels no pressure whatsoever for the reason that they don’t aim for the crown, they aim to gain experience in joining the event to get her through the next pageant or competition that she might join.
As a winner, she stays humble, focused and still knows what to prioritize in her life. After the grand finals to be held in Manila on October 19, she does not have any plans yet to join more competitions; she says that if there is one, then she might join, but if there is none, she is not going to look for one.
Angelie Joy Golingay is a simple girl who just happens to have the looks, height, charisma and attitude of a pageant participant and caught the eyes of the judges who decided that she be Iloilo’s representative for the search for Miss Silka.
