DOLE’s ‘Negosyo sa Kariton’ to benefit 100 ambulant vendors in Region 6
Some 100 ambulant vendors are expected to benefit from the special project of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Kabuhayan Program called Negosyo sa Kariton or “Nego-Kart Project.”
The DOLE set aside P1.5 million for the 100 Nego-Kart beneficiaries in Region 6, which translates to P15 thousand per beneficiary.
DOLE 6 Director Aida M. Estabillo said this project will assist ambulant vendors improve and expand their existing livelihood undertakings and grow into more profitable and sustainable businesses.
“We have so many ambulant vendors trading their goods and services in sidewalks, bus terminals and other public places using dilapidated trisikad or improvised vending cart,” Estabillo said. “We want to help them increase, improve or diversify their products or services through the provision of new vending carts and accessory tools, working capital and even training to ensure the sustainability of their businesses,” she added.
The Nego-Kart project will provide each beneficiary with a vending cart and accessory livelihood tools, and working capital for the procurement or production of marketable goods or services such as raw materials and other inputs.
It will also provide the beneficiaries with training on production skills (if necessary), entrepreneurship and business management, and facilitate the issuance of business permit to operate in designated areas.
Estabillo said this project is expected to make the beneficiaries’ income level at par with that of the minimum wage earners.
The DOLE 6 is set to launch this Project come October this year.
Right now, it is linking with Local Government Units (LGUs) and other Accredited Co-Partners (ACPs) of key cities and capital towns in Region 6 in coming up with lists of itinerant vendors in their areas. The LGUs/ACPs will then identify the beneficiaries from those listed subject to DOLE’s validation and evaluation.
