Acap: Poker room is okay but...
City Councilor Lyndon Acap believes Vanskaps & Management Group Inc, could operate a poker game here in Iloilo City as long as it complies with the existing ordinances.
Acap, chair of the committee on games, amusement and professional sports of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, said there is nothing wrong in the proposal as long city ordinances governing the proposed plan to operate a poker room is complied.
The committee chaired by Acap already tossed the responsibility to the executive department on whether to allow or deny the intention of the Vanskaps & Management Group.
He said the responsibility in allowing the poker game operation is already in the hands of Mayor Jerry Treñas. It depends on the chief executive to issue a business permit to the proponent.
The Vanskaps & Management Group will discuss their proposal in today’s public hearing to be attended by officials and residents of San Rafael, Mandurriao. The public hearing will be held at the barangay hall of San Rafael.
The proposed new site of the poker room is at the Boardwalk entertainment complex in Brgy. San Rafael, Mandurriao district. It became an alternative site for the poker game after violations were noted in the first site eyed by the proponent.
The first site of the proposed poker game was the Residence Hotel along General Luna Street, City Proper. Its proximity to the University of San Agustin constitutes violation on the City Ordinance which prohibits gambling within the 200 meter radius from school or church.
It is also the work of the City Zoning Board to determine on whether the new proposed site is within the “commercial zone” or allowable activities area, said Acap.
