ROXAS CITY – About 40 delegates from various member-nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will gather here for the experts meeting on the recognition and protection of ASEAN Communal Property Rights on October 3 to 6 this year.
Provincial Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro said that a welcome dinner will be ushered by the province for the ASEAN delegates that will be spiced up by a showcase of Visayan performing arts.
A program has also been set during the dinner that will include messages from Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco and Department of Education Undersecretary Vilma L. Labrador, respectively.
The delegates of participating countries will be introduced by National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Executive Director Cecile-Guidote Alvarez.
Speakers who are experts on intellectual property rights and cultural heritage have been invited to talk during the meeting.
Tesoro noted that the ASEAN delegates and other visitors will undertake cultural exchange activities by visiting tourism and cultural sites like the butterfly farm in Panay, Marugo Dam in Tapaz, and Culajao Eco-Park , among others.
The experts meeting coincides with the Dungog: Indigenous People’s (IP) Festival that will gather some 400 participants from more than a hundred ethno-linguistic groups nationwide to celebrate the richness and diversity of customs and traditions of cultural communities.
The festival is also envisioned to foster deeper cultural understanding on the role of IP/cultural communities in eco-tourism and cultural education. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
