Capiz bizmen comply price control
ROXAS CITY – All retailers and business firms in Capiz comply with the price control of basic commodities, says the Department of Trade and Industry.
Provincial Director Ermelinda Pollentes of DTI here disclosed that as of October 5, all the business establishments in Capiz are complying with the automatic price control on basic necessities, namely canned sardines, processed milk, coffee, detergent and laundry soap, bread, salt and candle.
Pollentes said that they are closely monitoring all the business establishments in Roxas City to ensure compliance thereto.
She said that they have earlier hired five casual employees under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) to particularly conduct monitoring of prices of basic and prime commodities in the city and key municipalities.
Pollentes assured Capiceños of sufficient supply of processed and manufactures products.
In a Provincial Price Coordinating Council meeting presided over by Capiz Board Member Esteban Evan Contreras III, Pollentes re-oriented members of the council of Republic Act 7581, otherwise known as the Price Act.
She pointed out that under said law, the President may impose a price ceiling on any basic necessity or prime commodity for not more than two months under the following conditions: whenever an area is declared a disaster area or under a state of calamity; the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus is suspended in an area; an area is placed under martial law; an area is declared to be in a state of rebellion; or a state of war is declared in an area.
The price control was implemented after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has placed the entire country under the state of national calamity due to devastation wrought by tropical storm “Ondoy” on September 26. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
