Professionalizing BPAT is impossible, says Liga prexy
ROXAS CITY – City Liga President Wilson Acervo said here recently that the move of the national government to professionalize the Barangay Peace Keeping Action Team (BPAT) is impossible.
Acervo said that if the professional they are referring to is like a doctor or engineer by profession, they cannot be a peace keeper of the barangay since they could not be awakened during the night time when the trouble comes.
It was learned that the Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVOs) will be renamed BPAT and be professionalized as mandated by the national government.
The liga president also said that the CVO only receive an honorarium ranging from P50 – P300 per month depending on the capacity of the barangay where he serves 24 hours a day.
Meanwhile, Acervo also said that the CVOs’ are usually covered with PhilHealth and insurance benefits as part of the barangay’s program in recognition of the services they render.
