The gift of gab at CPU
QUOTE: People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.–Eleanor Roosevelt
There are so many Centralians who are gifted with a prowess for words. This was evident during the oration, declamation and extemporaneous competition in English and Filipino, held in line with the Central Philippine University’s foundation day celebration.
The extemporaneous competition was quite informative because important points were raised. They were the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, influence on the youth, the ineffective use of resources, and weapons of mass destruction giving countries a false sense of security, and more.
The declamation competition, where I was one of the judges, was quite entertaining. With so much passion, one student shared his dream of becoming a preacher, another showed how a ghost led to the solution of a murder, one narrated how some girls who try to change themselves (even for the worse like being anorexic) just to please her crush (who ended up no wanting her anyway no matter what), and the value of being ourselves and not pretending to be someone else, and many more.
The event’s theme was “Empowering Students for a Better Central.”
