DOLE helps ambulant vendors under Negosyo sa Kariton Project
Some 20 ambulant vendors and their families are expected to benefit from the P240,000 funds released recently by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 to its Accredited Co-partner (ACP), the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST), under the Negosyo sa Kariton or NegoKart Project.
The DOLE 6 released to Dr. Nemia Mabaquiao, head of the extension service division of the WVCST the check which represents the cost of the project. The amount would be used to purchase vending carts as assistance to the identified ambulant vendors aimed at enhancing their existing livelihood.
The WVCST was the one who identified and background checked the beneficiaries to ensure they really are qualified to avail of the project.
DOLE 6 Assistant Regional Director Crispin D. Dannug, Jr. said the project is a big help to the ambulant vendors who have been trading their goods or services around the City on foot or using their dilapidated vending carts.
“These vending carts would help enhance the livelihood of the beneficiaries and increase their families’ incomes as they would be able to go around their areas and serve more clients with ease,” Dannug said.
As partner-agency, the WVCST will extend training to the beneficiaries such as entrepreneurial management training, bookkeeping, and simple bookkeeping aimed at enhancing their skills in running their livelihood.
The carts will be released to the recipients during the launching of the project come November 3 at WVCST campus.
The DOLE has allotted some P1.5 million to provide vending carts to about 100 ambulant vendors in the Region’s major cities and capital towns. Thirty carts were set aside for Iloilo and Guimaras Provinces – 20 for Iloilo and 10 for Guimaras, 25 carts for Negros Occidental, 15 for Capiz, 15 for Aklan, and 15 for Antique.
