La Paz jail escapee has surrender feelers
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director Sr. Supt. Melvin Mongcal said the manhunt on La Paz PNP lock up cell escapee Mark Anthony Cahandig continues despite the surrender feelers sent by his family.
Cahandig along with Alberto Patpat bolted the La Paz police station detention cell on October 7. The joint police team from the La Paz police station and other police units under the ICPO failed to account him since he escaped from the detention cell. Until this time, operatives have yet to pinpoint Cahandig’s exact location.
Mongcal said they are exerting efforts to arrest the escapee.
He added that Cahandig should follow his accomplice Alberto Patpat who already surrendered to the police.
Patpat surrendered to Mongcal late evening of October 17. He was accompanied by his mother and Atty. Joshua Alim. During his surrender, Patpat requested that he be jailed at the detention cell of the city police rather than in La Paz police station which the authorities have granted.
Cahandig and Patpat allegedly cut the 16 mm rebars of the detention cell unnoticed by the duty jailer. They allegedly used a guitar chord in cutting the rebars. Cahandig is facing charges for possession of illegal drugs while Patpat for robbery.
