Mangrove planting, livelihood assistance held in Iloilo village
Some 3,000 mangrove seedlings were planted by the Marine Engineering students of the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST), Soroptimist International, Panay Power Corporation (PPC) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) during a recent mangrove planting activity held at Brgy. Hinactacan, Lapaz.
The activity covered some half-hectare of the mangrove area in Brgy. Hinactacan, which is one of the partner communities of the WVCST.
After the half-day event, the Soroptimist International group also conducted a community consultation with women residents of the said barangay to determine the possible support that it can extend to the underprivileged sector in the area.
Initially, 25 women were given livelihood assistance while an educational support has been mulled for graduating high schools students in the barangay to help them get college degree.
