NegOcc holds Coop congress
BACOLOD CITY – The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental through the Negros Occidental Cooperative Development Council (NOCDC) held a Cooperative Forum and Congress attended by more than a hundred cooperative members and officers from all over the province at the Capitol Social Hall recently.
Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Chairperson Lecira V. Juarez, the event’s keynote speaker, discussed the salient features of the new Cooperative Code of 2008 stressing that the new provisions of the code will provide the cooperatives more chances of serving their members, not only financially, but in terms of opportunities geared towards their growth.
Sixth District Board Member and SP Committee on Cooperatives Chairman Adolfo Mangao Sr., explained that the new code will make local cooperatives responsive to their members while challenging them to work together to professionalize their sector.
Provincial Cooperative Officer Adolfo G. Gilpo thanked the participants for their presence and continued support to the cooperative’s endeavors.
Also present during the event were Provincial Consultant Nestor Bayona, Coop NATCO Party List Executive Vice President Emmanuel Solis and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Credit and Loans Department Asst. Manager Louella Leones who emphasized the advantages of subscribing to the Negros Coopreneurs Surety Fund (NCSF).
Leones pointed out that the program will assist Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) who are in need of capital to strengthen their businesses
Meanwhile, around 4,000 cooperative leaders are expected to attend the Provincial Cooperative Day today at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center (NOMPAC) with Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Regional Director Arnel Agrazada as the keynote speaker. (Capitol News)
