Bermejo-Altabano tandem vs. LP Del Rosario wing in 2010 polls
ROXAS CITY – City Mayor Vicente Bermejo tandems with City Councilor Dennis Altobano to oppose Liberal Party’s 1st District Congressman Antonio Del Rosario in the 2010 election.
This was declared by Altobano last Tuesday saying that he was chosen by Bermejo to his running mate after a series of surveys conducted in barangays where his name topped other bets.
Altobano, however, did not confirm nor deny that they are associated with Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC) of former Agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante who is running for governor against incumbent Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr.
Altobano is the son of three termer former City Councilor and Board Member Fernando Altobano who had been in LP with Sen. Mar Roxas for 18 years. The older Altobano is currently the adviser of Gov. Tanco,Sr.
Altobano said their party is still on the process of selecting their bets for city councilor.
However, a reliable source told The News Today (TNT) that those included in the slate for councilors of the Bermejo wing are reelectionists: Greg Arcenas, Jose Agdalipe, Carla Abela and Rolando Ignacio; former City Councilor Teresa Almalbis, businessmen Johnny Magallanes, Lauro Lima, Nonoy Albar, father of Lawa-an Brgy.Captain Randy Albar, and Tiza Kagawad John Heredia,
On the other hand, incumbent Vice-Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said that he welcomes Altobano to be his opponent for “this is a sign of healthy political exercise for it shows that democracy is active.”
On the other hand, the Del Rosario wing is still looking for city mayorable to field against Bermejo. The same reliable source also said that Dadivas will seek for reelection. Their group’s possible bets for city councilors are: former Vice Mayor Roberto Ignacio, former City Councilors Victor Arcenas, Gilbert Tan Gaurino and Alberto Potato, former Judge Julius Abela, Mr. Matty Veterbo, the son of businessman Pepot Hernandez, and reelectionist City Councilors Erwin Sicad, Jun Anisco and Herbert Chu.
In a latest development, Del Rosario, who is the choice of Sen. Mar Roxas, will be fielded to oppose Bermejo in the city mayoral race while his post in the 1st congressional district will be filled up either by former Congressman Rodriquez Dadivas or former Governor Esteban E. Contreras.
Earlier, Mr. Emmanuel Billones, Roxas’ uncle, was eyed to be fielded by the party against Bermejo who reportedly has 38 barangay captains out of 47 behind him.
