Halad Bata: A Terracotta Exhibit
At the center of the exhibit area was a towering sculpture of a tree surrounded by human mouths below it. The upper part shows the efforts of the younger generation in helping protect Mother Earth. The mouths depict the population that is dependent on Mother Earth’s resources.
This was the backdrop of Halad Bata: A Terracotta Exhibit held in SM City Iloilo recently. Varied terracotta pieces were molded by the Gawad Kalinga Terracotta Youth Artists under the tutelage of artist PG Zoluaga and the support of Smart Communications and PLDT.
According to Zoluaga, these children started to learn about terracotta sculpture in 2007 under a two-day workshop. Since then, they have improved. This is true, as can be seen from the way the children molded their works. The terracotta creations were so impressive that most of the guests at the exhibit opening bought some of them.
This is the second attempt of Smart-PLDT to contribute to community art, a project under “Kabalikat” a corporate social responsibility program of the said companies.
Indeed, getting the children busy with art pieces that they can sell has a considerable impact on making them responsible citizens of this country.
