City liga prexy to Sen. Roxas: Declare city as ‘free zone’
ROXAS CITY – City Liga President Wilson Acervo urged Sen. Mar Roxas to declare the city as “free zone” and let the people decide who is who in the city.
“We and the other groups have the common denominator to protect and support Sen. Mar Roxas and we must not give problems to him so that he can concentrate campaigning outside Capiz for his vice presidential bid,” Acervo told The News Today (TNT).
The liga president also requested Sen. Roxas’ political generals such as Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera, Board Member Alfonso “Bo” Bediones and Mr. Emmanuel “Tawi” Billones to relay his message to the senator.
Acervo, who is a political ally of City Mayor Vicente Bermejo, denied the issue hurled against him that he is afraid of the senator, but said that he respects the latter being a political leader.
He also denied that his allies the 38 barangay captains out of 47, who are said to be loyal to Bermejo, have already joined Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC) of Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante who is running for governor against Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr.
“We are still in Liberal Party (LP) with Senator Mar Roxas as we are supporting him,” Acervo said adding that there was no official move from the senator that Bermejo was kicked out from the LP.
It was learned that Bermejo has political differences with 1st District Cong. Antonio del Rosario. Both of them have their own line up of vice mayor and city councilors.
Meanwhile, Bediones, one of Sen. Roxas’ generals and first cousin of Mayor Bermejo, said that the issue between Bermejo and the other group should be settled once and for all.
According to him, he never commented on the issue since his task for Sen. Mar Roxas is outside Capiz.
