Ilonggo hospitality charms organizer of int’ math tilt
The warmth accommodation afforded by Ilonggos to delegates of various fora organized by the Mathematics Training Guild (MTG) here has became a ticket for its hosting the Philippine International Mathematics Competition (PIMC) slated Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, 2009.
MTG executive director Roberto Degolacion said for four years, they have been visiting Iloilo City for their national trainings usually at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
“We experienced the hospitality of Ilonggos. We had an A-one accommodation, thus we have no second thoughts of choosing Iloilo City outside of Metro Manila,” he said.
The PIMC will gather math wizards, parents and coaches from 23 countries worldwide in addition to thousands of delegates coming from the country’s 16 regions who will also compete in the Philippine National Mathematics Competition (PNMC) to be held simultaneous with the former event.
Degolacion said while delegates from the various regions compete at the Punta Villa Resort here, around 40 participants from the Philippines will be fitted against representatives from other countries for the PIMC.
“We will bring tourism, we will bring business to your city,” he said. “We want also those coming from the national and international level to really see is really Iloilo City.”
Meantime, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the city is very supportive of the event because it will also serve as venue for Ilonggos to show that they too can excel in Mathematics.
“This is a very good event because in education Science, English and Math are very important,” Treñas said.
The mayor added the city is ready to provide security, doctors, ambulance and the like that they may need during the duration of their stay in the city.
The City Tourism and Development Office has likewise prepared tour packages for the delegation for them to also enjoy their stay in the city. (PNA)
