Tanco pledges P100 T for Dumarao church reconstruction
ROXAS CITY – Msgr. Vicente Hilata, Vicar General of Archdiocese of Capiz, said that Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. was the first to pledge help in the amount of P100,000 for the reconstruction of the Dumarao church which was gutted by fire last Monday.
The prelate said Tanco made the pledge during the “Alay Lakad” at the Villareal Stadium yesterday.
Msgr. Hilata, who is concurrently rector of the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (CPC), is asking the help of the community to rebuild the church.
Tanco’s pledge of P100,000 as seed money for the reconstruction of the church was made in the presence of Korina Sanchez-Roxas, former PNP Chief Roberto “Bobby” Lastimoso, Board Members Nonoy Contreras and Fritz Crum Am and hundreds of Dumaraonons who attended the dialogue. (see related story)
Last Monday, the century old Our Lady of Snow Parish Church which was established in the 16th century and the Catholic church-run school Our Lady of the Snow Institute (OLSI) were razed by fire.
The fire originated from the ceiling of the 2nd floor of OLSI and spread out to the whole school building and gutted the whole church.
He said initial arson investigation showed that electrical short circuit was the cause of the fire.
Dumarao Mayor Leslie Warren “Beboy” Benjamen has offered the covered gym to be used as temporary venue of mass during Sundays and classrooms of displaced students of OLSI.
