Councilor Dolendo to run for vice mayor in Dumangas
Dumangas councilor Ian Dolendo declared over the weekend that he will run for vice mayor of their town in next year’s election.
Dolendo’s declaration came after former Vice Mayor Julito Diasnes abandoned their group in favor of incumbent mayor Ronaldo “Onal” Golez.
Dolendo said since June of this year opposition leaders in Dumangas had a consensus to field Diasnes for mayor and Dolendo for vice mayor in the 2010 election.
In fact, Dolendo said, they have already started going around the barangays and woe people’s support for their tandem which gained positive response.
Dolendo said he was surprised that recently Diasnes defected to the camp of Mayor Golez and declared to be the latter’s running mate.
Incumbent vice mayor Hernan Biron Jr. reportedly will run for board member of the fourth district of Iloilo.
Dolendo said 98% of their leaders were disappointed with the move of Diasnes reason why he decided to pursue his plan of running for vice mayor.
“I want to lead a new kind of politics in Dumangas, a kind of politics which was started by the late congressman Narciso Monfort,” Dolendo, said adding “as a young leader I assure the Dumangasanons that I will be championing their cause similar to what I’m doing now as councilor.”
Dolendo, 31, has been instrumental in uncovering the irregularities in the cutting of mahogany trees inside the Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) Dumangas campus.
Dolendo has also questioned in the Sangguniang Bayan the wanton quarry operations in Dumangas which may result in flooding and landslides that will endanger the lives of the people.
The young councilor also brought to the attention of the municipal government the worsening peace and order condition in their town.
Dolendo lamented that the Dumangas Philippine National Police got the “kalabasa award” twice due to their poor performance.
Dolendo is on his second term as municipal councilor. His political career started in 1997 when he became president of the Sangguniang Kabataan in their barangay.
