No suspect yet in Molo grenade throwing incident
Police have yet to identify the suspect who lobbed a grenade in front of the EGC Construction & Supply in Barangay Boulevard, Molo early dawn last Saturday. The explosion wounded seven people.
Probers are still waiting on the availability of Barangay Kagawad Elmer Cuenca, owner of the establishment, to shed light on the incident. The information which he initially gave to the police after the incident was not substantial and did not give probers a lead in identifying the suspect and its motive.
It is theorized that the motorcycle-riding suspect purposely thrown the grenade at Cuenca’s place but it hit seven by-standers and destroyed the glass window of the barangay’s health center and SK office. The store’s steel gate and glass window were also severely damaged.
Investigators from the Molo police station want to get additional information from the barangay kagawad after several allegations came up on the possible motives which prompted the suspect in throwing the grenade in front of Cuenca’s construction store that wounded seven persons.
There were information that Cuenca recently hit a woman while driving his vehicle and another angle seen is related to business competition. However, police could not ascertain all the information unless the kagawad cooperates with them.
In a press release e-mailed by SPO1 Ignacio Javier to The News Today the wounded persons were identified as Glenn Machan, 33; Roberto Catilo, 50; Joseph Franco, 31; Jason John Tan, 17; Eliazor Eribal, 17; July Mendoza, 17 and Rolly Elevencione, 17. They were at the opposite road but were hit by the bomb’s splinter. They were immediately brought to Iloilo Doctors Hospital for medical treatment.
Police recovered one safety lever and two shrapnels of M26A1 hand grenade at the crime scene.
