A grand architects’ gathering
The First Visayas Conference of Architects organized by the United Architects of the Philippines, was successfully held at Punta Villa Resort last Nov. 13 to 15, 2009. It was an assembly of UAP officers and members from different chapters in Visayas and Mindanao.
The guest of honor and keynote speaker was Department of Tourism 6 Director Edwin Trompeta, who explained how tourism and architecture are related, with architects as visionaries of the built environment landscape.
Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas also graced the welcome dinner. He encouraged the architects to act with honesty, sincerity, and carry in himself a pound of credibility.
An exhibit was also held at SM City Iloilo, where 32 suppliers showcased their newest product lines in the construction industry. Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog stressed the significant role the architects in working in partnership with the government in the progress of the community. Meanwhile, Pavia Mayor, Hon. Arcadio Gorriceta, emphasized the architect’s primordial role in the preservation of heritage structures and landmarks. The opening was attended by UAP members and Architecture students as well.
