A night of poetry
Poets, aspiring ones and curious individuals, gathered one weekend evening at Crammers to share our poems as well as discuss these. Thanks to Mel Turao and Prince Golez for initiating this successful activity. It was from this event that I learned more about Akeanon poetry (thanks to Sir Mel Cichon, father of Aklanon literature), heard that black is no longer a color based on one designer participant’s perspective (I wondered about this a bit), laughed a lot to one of the participants’ grin poem, and lastly, to say my lines, which were prepared a few minutes before the activity started in order to please my friend Prince. Anyway, in the middle of my poem, I stopped and struggled with one line because I could no longer understand my OWN handwriting, and wondered why after I said my piece, everybody was so quiet I could almost hear a pin drop. (They didn’t like it or didn’t understand it the way that I did not understand it either). But, it was a rich and learning experience, really.
It’s good to know that poetry reading still holds an appeal to many. After all, it can make you laugh, cry, smile think and brood. It’s a good form of mental exercise as well.
