Treñas refutes Gonzalez’s claim on his political career
City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday refuted the accusations hurled by the Gonzalezes against him that the latter molded and shaped his political career for almost nine years. He said, it was a two-way relation.
Treñas said he has done his part and made a name not only for himself but for the entire city during his term as city mayor which ends next year. It is inaccurate for the Gonzalezes to claim such, he said.
The issue on Treñas’s being ungrateful was the first issue hurled against the mayor after he parted ways with the Gonzalezes and pursued his political ambition. The mayor earlier admitted that turning against his former allies and following the will of the people in seeking higher elective position in the May 2010 election was a difficult decision to make.
He recognized that Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr. had been instrumental in his political comeback in the 2001 elections, but Treñas countered saying he has also performed his part by supporting incumbent Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr.
Treñas said it was not only him who benefited from their alliance. He also helped the Gonzalezes. He said he has responded on whatever the Gonzalezes asked him.
Treñas said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo tried to patch up things between him and the Gonzalezes. However, the terms offered by the President were not acceptable to the father and son tandem.
The political rivalry between Treñas and Gonzalez also created a rift among the city’s barangay captains who used to be their allies.
