2 candidates in Capiz withdrawn
ROXAS CITY – Two candidates, who filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs), had withdrawn from running in public office as of last Monday, the deadline for substitutions set by the Commission on Election (COMELEC).
Lawyer Wel Arceño, provincial Comelec supervisor, said that Former Mayor Ernesto Escutin, father of Dao reelectionist Mayor Joselito “Bobo” Escutin, withdrew from running as independent vice mayor.
The other candidate who withdrawn, according to Arceño, was Ms. Amy Asis of Liberal Party (LP) in Panay, Capiz as Sangguniang Bayan Member. The LP hierarchy replaced her during the substitution on Monday.
Amy is the sister of Panay Mayoral Candidate Nene Asis of LP who is facing incumbent Mayor Dante Bermejo.
According to Arceño, under the Comelec’s new rule, the candidates who withdrew from running could be replaced by a member of the party has not filed a COC.
He added substitution is prohibited on the part of independent candidates while there will be no exchange of positions among the candidates who already filed their COCs.
