Responsible Parenting Movement Teams present in almost all Antique barangays
SAN JOSE, Antique – According to Mr. Primo Ogatis, head of the Provincial Population Office, there are already 503 barangays here that have Responsible Parenting Movement (PRM) Teams. He added that his office had already conducted 525 RPM-NFP classes and had trained 7,595 couples.
This aims to help couples and parents exercise responsible parenting and to reduce infant, child and maternal mortality, he said. Consequently, they also conducted free tubal ligation to 292 indigent married women as well as pre-marriage counseling to almost a thousand couples.
Ogatis added that they have oriented 10 pilot municipalities on the new scheme of direct release of RPM/NFP funds which are Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, Hamtic, Sibalom, Patnongon, Valderrama, Bugasong, Laua-an, Barbaza, Tibiao and Pandan.
In addition, Ogatis bared that his office also reached out to the young Antiquenos and conducted orientation on Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program (AHYDP). Through this, they are able to help the youth to exercise responsible sexuality, thereby reducing the incidence of teenage pregnancies, early marriages, sexually transmitted infections and other psycho-social concerns. They also established and maintain seven school-based Teen Centers in seven secondary schools and state colleges.
Aside from this, they also oriented the municipal mayors of a couple of municipalities, like Barbaza and Pandan, on Learning Package on Parent education.
