Treñas appoints Belosillo as Jaro Agro Industrial Charity Fair chair
The squabble within the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC)-Jaro chapter is expected to blow up with the designation of Barangay Capt. Jonas Antonio Belosillo as chair of the 2010 Jaro-Agro Industrial and Charity Fair.
Belosillo’s designation was contained in Executive Order Number (EO) 53 issued by Mayor Jerry Treñas Monday afternoon. The designation came after Belosillo was replaced by Barangay Captain Love Joy Hosenilla as president of ABC-Jaro.
In the same executive order, Treñas revoked EO 41, series of 2009 which automatically designates Belosillo as chairman of the Jaro-Agro Industrial and Charity Fair being the ABC president.
EO 53 states “regrettably with the replacement of punong barangay Bellosilo as president of the association of Barangay Captains of the district of Jaro, there is a need to revoke EO 41.”
Earlier, Treñas said he will not recognize Hosenilla as Jaro ABC chair and still considers Belosillo as ABC president since the latter along with two other barangay captains were illegally ousted.
“The revocation of EO 41 will maintain the continuity of the success of the Jaro Agro Industrial and Charity Fair under the able leadership of Belosillo,” the order further states.
In a radio interview, Belosillo said there is nothing to worry on his so-called replacement as ABC Jaro president. He said what matters now is his designation as chair of the Jaro-Agro Industrial and Charity Fair.
With the issuance of such executive order, Bellosillo was given the authority to manage the affair of the Jaro-Agro Industrial and Charity Fair. He is also given a mandate to form and organize different committees needed to run the affairs smoothly.
Every year, the Jaro-Agro Industrial and Charity Fair are held as added activities for the feast of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (Our Lady of Candles).
Traders not only from Iloilo but in some parts of the country are given the opportunity to sell their products inside the Jaro plaza. There are also garden shows and cockfight derbies where cockfight aficionados all over the country participate.
Fees are collected and divided among the barangays in Jaro. In previous years, the trade fair raised more than a million pesos in revenues.
Belosillo believes he was indeed illegally ousted. His ouster connotes violation of the internal rules of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) of which the ABC is registered.
On his part, Hosenilla said it is the prerogative of the chief executive to appoint whoever he wants to manage the Jaro Agro Industrial and Charity Fair.
Hosenilla said he will not push himself to become the chair of the trade fair. He lamented that Belosillo should not claim that the success of the trade fair was only because of him.
The success in running the trade fair was made because of the cooperation and participation of all the barangay captains. It is a collaborative effort. The credit was not entirely for him but to all the punong barangays, said Hosenilla.
