MRWD asked to shed light on water rate increase
ROXAS CITY – Provincial and city legislators invited the Metro Roxas Water District (MRWD) to provide reasons why they will hike their water rate this year.
City Councilor Jose Agdalipe and Board Member Baden Cantiller, all chairmen on the Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Communication, have already invited Rosemarie Marquez, interim manager of the MRWD in their respective sessions during the question hour.
It was learned that they cause for the hike may be triggered by the P1-billion loan incurred by the water district to the Local Water Utilities Administration (LUWA) to finance its treatment plant expansion and rehabilitation of pipes from Panitan to the neighboring towns.
It was learned that members-concessionaires were sent a notice of the impending rate increase this January 2010 which caused them to worry of yet another burden to them.
Lilibeth Arlus, department head of the MRWD, said that Marquez is in Manila for important matters but he has accepted the invitation.
