NFA-Capiz distributes 115T bags of rice in 2009
ROXAS CITY – A total of 115,092 bags of rice have been distributed by the National Food Authority (NFA) – Capiz Provincial Office in 2009 through its various accredited rice outlets.
“The biggest distributor was the 118 Tindahan Nation (TN) outlets which had supplied 85,533 bags of rice to their respective beneficiaries,” said NFA – Capiz Provincial Economist Samuel Sarmiento.
Sarmiento added that the distribution was also carried out provincewide through the Institutionalized Bigasan sa Palenge, Bigasan sa Parokya and newly operational Bigasan sa Barangays.
The government subsidized rice is sold at P18.25 per kilogram.
At the national level, the agency’s actual rice distribution has reached 1.8 million metric tons or 36 million bags. The number represents 74 percent of the 2.4 million metric tons or some 49 million bags target for the year.
NFA administrator Jessup P. Navarro said the volume of NFA rice distributed last year manifested the continued consumers’ preference for the good quality but low-priced government rice. (PIA/A. Lumaque)
