Soldier, 2 civilians jailed for violating Comelec gun ban
ROXAS CITY – An active member of the Philippine Army (PA) and two civilians were apprehended for violation of Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban which started last January 10 the start of the election period.
Apprehended were PFC Daniel Borres of Hibaka, Maayon, Capiz who assigned at 79th Infantry Batalion (IB) based in Negros Oriental; Eren Querubin, 21, and Edgar Buenafe, 22, all are residents of Sara, Iloilo.
Borres was apprehended by Pontevedra police when he went to the police station to get his impounded tricycle.
Borres’ tricycle was impounded at the police station since his brother, who used it during the apprehension, has no driver’s license while the tricycle reportedly has expired registration.
Report have it that Borres, who was wearing shorts and carrying .45 caliber, identified himself to be a member of the PA to the Pontevedra police and wanted to get his tricycle.
When the police noticed that he has a firearm, the police apprehended and put him at the lock-up cell for violation of Comelec gun ban.
On the other hand, Querubin and Buenafe were also apprehended by the police in a checkpoint conducted by elements of Pilar, Capiz at Barangay San Esteban at around 12:30 Sunday, January 10.
Police said that Querubin and Buenafe were riding a single motorcycle and tried to evade the authorities by turning towards San Blas, Pilar, Capiz however, the two suspects were chased by the police and were apprehended.
The .38 caliber pistol was taken from Querubin during the checkpoint.
