Shooting victim belies involvement in drug cases
ROXAS CITY – Rolando (a.k.a. Thomas) Aguirre strongly denied that he is facing a string of illegal drug cases in court contrary to the earlier statements of the city police.
However, he admitted that he once engaged in illegal gambling locally known as “daily double” but he already stopped due to lack of capital.
Aguirre, 40, of Amaga, Sigma, Capiz and temporarily residing at Bangbang Street, this city, was ambushed by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle yesterday morning.
He survived the ambush after he fired back against the two suspects but he sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg.
Roxas City police investigator said that the incident took place at around 9:30 a.m. yesterday at Burgos Street. The two suspects opened fire on Aguirre who was on board his multicab.
Police said that Aguirre came from Punta Tabuc when he noticed that two persons kept on tailing him and upon reaching Burgos Street, he was shot.
Recovered from the scene of incident were one .45 caliber pistol, one 9 mm with magazine and 9 live ammos believed to be owned by Aguirre, gun license with PTR registered in the name of the victim, one shoulder bag, and 14 empty shells of .45 caliber.
Meanwhile, Aguirre theorized that the motive of the ambush is competition over illegal gambling operation.
