Acervo puts blame on ‘sleeping’ brgy captains
ROXAS CITY – City Liga President Wilson Acervo turned the blame on “sleeping” barangay captains for the failure of their barangay tanods or members of the Civilian Volunteers Organization (CVO) to avail of their honorarium.
Acervo said barangay captains from ten barangays whose CVOs were not able to receive their P1,000 honorarium from the city government failed to submit the updated list of their CVOs.
“Due to the absence of updated list of active CVOs, their payroll was not processed,” Acervo said.
He added that the CVOs of the 38 other barangays already received P1,000 from the city government on December last year.
Acervo said many CVOs in the barangays were replaced or are already inactive, thus the need to have an updated list.
In last Tuesday’s session, Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas asked Acervo, being the city liga president, why the CVOs of ten barangays did not receive their honorarium, although the city government already appropriated funds for it.
The barangays whose CVOs did not receive their honorarium were: Barangays Bago, Libas, Liong, San Jose, Talon, 8, 10. Tiza, Inzo Arnaldo and Gabuan.
It was learned that the barangay captains in these ten barangays are politically opposed to City Mayor Vicente Bermejo. Acervo, however, clarified that the CVOs of Brgy. Tanza and Punta Cogon, whose barangay captains are also not aligned with the city mayor, received their honorarium.
