Comelec to introduce PCOS machines to Capiceños
ROXAS CITY – The Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine that will be used in the country’s first automated election on May 10 will be introduced by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to Capiceños from Feb. 22 to March 3 as part of its voter’s education campaign.
“We encourage the voters to participate,” stressed Comelec Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Wil Arceño.
The PCOS demonstration will be conducted in the municipalities from Feb. 22 to 27, he added.
Roxas City will have its turn on Feb 28 to March 3.
During the public demonstration, participants will be briefed on how to shade their ballots and feed these into the machine.
The use of the PCOS will shorten the burden of manual counting and transmission of election results from precinct level to municipal and provincial board of canvassers.
The forthcoming automated polls is part of President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo administration’s legacy to Filipinos who deserve clean, honest, orderly and peaceful elections that deliver fast and decisive results.
The modernization of the electoral process is included in the 10-point agenda of the Arroyo administration. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
