Filipino-Chinese Friendship Ark to rise in Iloilo City
Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Iloilo Inc. (FCCCI) president Dr. Roland Uy said a well-known Chinese architect is still working on the final design of the proposed “Filipino-Chinese Friendship Ark.”
Uy said they are on the process of “improving the design” of the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Ark. The Chinese marker will be unveiled between February 25-26.
The old Calle Real (now JM Basa St.), is home to old Tsinoys and was once the city’s busiest commercial district in the city before the advent of big malls.
The unveiling of the friendship ark would be a separate activity apart from the Chinese New Year celebration set on Feb. 12.
The unveiling of the marker would be held in time for the centennial celebration of the FCCCI, said Monette Pama, secretary of the Iloilo Chinese-Filipino Cultural Association.
Pama could not remember the name of the Chinese architect but said he is a well-known architect in Metro Manila.
The construction of the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Ark was authorized by the city government after a resolution was passed by the Sangguniang Panglungsod December of 2009.
The construction of the structure is at no expense to the city government. The structure or marker will symbolize the friendship between the locals and Tsinoys here.
