Dead Acetylene Gang member not a suspect in pawnshop robbery
A dead member of the Acetylene Gang is definitely not one of the suspects in the robbery of R. Sarabia pawnshop at E. Lopez St., Jaro which is owned by the wife of Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Chief Inspector Orly Gabinete, chief of police of Jaro police station, clarified that Mayor Treñas must have misunderstood his text message.
Gabinete’s clarification came after Mayor Treñas expressed his disappointment on how the police came up with an investigation report pinpointing a dead person in the crime.
Gabinete stressed it is not logical for them to pinpoint a dead person of participation in the crime.
The suspect who is from the province of Capiz allegedly is involved in the series of acetylene-initiated robbery cases here.
Gabinete said he is in constant communication with the mayor regarding the incident. Gabinete refused to name the alleged suspect since it has a social implication on family of the suspect.
Nevertheless, they are checking on the veracity of the information on the suspect’s death as they have yet to get hold a copy of the death certificate. They are also looking for the suspect’s wife to confirm the authenticity of the report.
Gabinete said they could not just believe the information regarding the suspect without seeing proofs of his death such as the death certificate.
The police are still on the process of further identifying the suspects who carted P400,000 worth of jewelries and cash from the pawnshop. Apparently, the suspects are using fictitious names, said Gabinete.
He said they have already secured a picture of one of the suspects. It might help them in the conduct of the investigation. Probers are set to show it to Benjie Janay, one of the witnesses, for the positive identification.
