Capiceño partylist rep gives scholarship to 33 students
ROXAS CITY – AGAP partylist Cong. Cesar Cobrador gave scholarship to 33 poor but deserving students in Dao, Capiz recently.
Cobrador, a native of Dao, Capiz, turned over checks in the amount of P5,000 each through his daughter Lawyer Leizel Cobrador.
Mrs. Lilia Griño said that Cobrador’s scholarship project is part of his “pag-ukilid” to his fellow Capiznons as he (Cobrador) had been a working student, shine-shoe boy, “cargador”, rice harvester, and others just to finish his college degree before he became successful businessman and millionaire.
Mr. Essex Quintia, his political ally, said that out of 33 scholars, 24 are residents of Dao and nine are native of Bailan, Pontevedra, Capiz.
The funds, according to Quintia, was sourced from CHED, Dep-Ed, and TESDA adding that students are studying at different schools such as Filamer Christian College, Hercor College, St. John College, Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion, John B. Lacson Maritime University in Iloilo City and several others.
It was learned that Cong. Cobrador declared last year to run as mayor in Dao under the Liberal Party (LP), however, he failed to pursue his candidacy after he suffered stroke in Manila.
He instead pushed his elder brother Paterno Cobrador, former vice mayor, to run as mayor and Griño as his running mate.
Cobrador and Griño are facing incumbent Mayor Joselito “Bobo” Escutin and his running mate under the banner of Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC) of former Agriculture Usec. Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante and Capiz 2nd District Cong. Fredinel Castro.
The distribution of checks was also attended by former PNP Chief Ret. Gen. Roberto “Bobby” Lastimoso and many others which was held at the rest house of the congressman in Brgy. Bombahan, Dao, Dapiz.
