Barkada Kontra Droga launched in Roxas City
ROXAS CITy – The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has launched the Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) here last Feb. 11 to tap and empower the youth to be the catalyst within their peer group in advocating a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
DDB Assistant Secretary Rommel L. Garcia said in his message during a short program at the Roxas City Bandstand that “everyone is a solution in the fight against drugs.”
“This is in line with President Gloria – Macapagal – Arroyo’s aim for a drug-free community,” he stressed.
A pledge of commitment among BKD – Roxas City chapter members highlighted the program that was followed by a training and seminar of the BKD’s core group.
The oathtaking was also participated in by some city government officials and employees lead by Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo, local police authorities and barangay officials, among others.
The BKD is a peer-based program designed as a preventive education and information tool to counter the dangers and disastrous effects of drug abuse.
It has now registered thousands of members from various chapters nationwide since it was piloted by DDB as a banner program in 2005 in Rizal province. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
