US donors visit Kiwanis-FCC NSTP feeding program
ROXAS CITY – American donors of the Kiwanis Balay ni San Jose K-Kids and FCC-NSTP Feeding Program held every Saturday of the month.
The donors who personally witnessed the feeding program on February 4, 2009, were: Mr. Gerry Krosnowski, Mr. Mark Paulson, Ms. Cathy & Rossane Crea, all of Risen Saviour Mission, Minnesota, USA.
Mr. Adam Jesus Bering, FCC-NSTP coordinator, said that with them is the Luzon District Governor Wilfred Valencia and they were accompanied by Kiwanis Past District Governor Mr. Jose “Ike” Altavas. A short program was prepared by the host school, the DABMS, before they witnessed the feeding of about 240 recipient pupils. During the ceremonial feeding, the HRM volunteer NSTP students assisted the distribution of foods along with some parents and teachers.
This year’s K-Kids Feeding Program is implemented through the joint efforts of Phil. South District Governor Jose “Ike” Altavas and Phil Luzon District Governor Wilfred “Boy” Valencia of Kiwanis International who facilitated the distribution of Fortified Rice with Soya Protein Meal package from RSM to FCC-NSTP for its own community-based feeding program wherein the pupils of Don Amando Bayot Memorial School (DABMS) and Day Care Center in Cagay are the recipients.
Thus far, 2 main feeding sites have availed of the program feeding 60 pupils of Brgy. Day Care Center and 180 pupils from grades 1-6 of Don Amando Bayot Memorial School in Cagay, this city.
“Thanks for the Kiwanis who are generous, compassionate and altruistic than other times of the year in spite of the looming real economic crisis cruising through the countryside,” Kiwanis Ike Altavas said, adding “the program keeps Kiwanian healthy experiencing “a helpers high”. The warmth and grateful smiles of the children, village officials, the mothers, volunteers, in their day care center and school, bring so much joy in us that instantly melt whatever stress, mental and emotional baggage we brought along with us”.
