Capiz PNP nets 15 gun ban violators so far
ROXAS CITY – Fifteen violators of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban and illegal possession of firearms have been apprehended by police authorities in Capiz since the prohibition of carrying firearms was implemented on Jan. 10 in view of the upcoming May polls.
The accomplishment of the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) forms part of the accumulated 90 arrested violators in the region as of Feb. 16 based on the Police Regional Office (PRO) – 6 Regional Election Monitoring Action Center records.
“Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office still topped with the highest number of arrested persons with 27, followed by Capiz and Bacolod City with 15 violators each,” said a PRO 6 Public Information Office blogsite.
The violators in the province consisted of a soldier, government official and civilians.
PRO 6 Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas said that the increase in the number of arrested persons and firearms confiscated is a manifestation of the intensified operations of the law enforcers in the implementation of the COMELEC gun ban.
He added that there will be no let-up in various police operations like checkpoints and police visibility to achieve an honest, orderly and peaceful elections.
The PRO 6 records also noted the accomplishment of Antique PPO with nine, Aklan and Iloilo with eight each, Iloilo City with five and Guimaras with three arrested gun ban violators.
The implementation of total ban of firearms during the election period will end on June 9. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
